I am a writer and a lover of words, traveling (lo these many years) under the guise of a college instructor of composition, business & technical writing, and the occasional literature class (web.ics.purdue.edu/~rebeccal). I love to teach, but it is my ambition to make a living as a writer.
My tastes in reading matter are as eclectic as my tastes in music ~ which is to say, I read and listen to what I like, regardless of genre, popularity, etc. In addition to writing, in my non-existent spare time I dabble in other arts, including drawing and painting, and for the most fun ~ face painting and body art, just because its fun and I'm good at it ~ and it usually includes getting hugs and smiles and looks of wonder and delight from babies (by which I mean any age child, really)the toddler range of which are most inclined to those looks of wonder and joy, and all of which are among my favorite people. Babies have such a soothing aura in which to relax, I think, and most of them are so easy to please. Unspendable though they may be hugs and looks of wonder and delight are worth more than buckets of gold.
In addition to books and music and playing with paint and babies, I'm very into spending time with my husband and my friends (many of whom are also my family), going to renaissance faires, traveling, spending time in New England, particularly coastal New England, most specifically on Cape Cod whenever I get the chance, and otherwise plotting my way to any lands of sea mists and white sand.
I'm multi-derivational (mostly german with a sprinkling of several other things, kinda like an everything cookie) by birth and Irish by choice and inclination, and my husband is descended of the Scots, specifically clan Leslie, which is kinda cool since my first true love was Red Hugh O'donnel (aka The Fighting Prince of Donnegal).
Since then I have been in love with Barnabas Collins (don't ask me why ~ I was very young at the time), multiple characters from multiple books by my favorite writers, most notably and ardently: Fred & George Weasly, then from the big and small screens, both Hamish and Stephen in Braveheart, then there's Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Jack Harkness, Dr. Who number 9 (and that's just off the top of my head), and most recently and most devotedly (for the last several years) the inimitable Eddie Izzard! I don't even care that he looks better in make up than I do.
